CHELSEA winger Pedro’s opening goal in the 4-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday, following a terrible mistake from Red Devils skipper Chris Smalling, came after an astonishing 30 seconds.

But while many at Stamford Bridge were still taking their seats when the net bulged, the former Barcelona player still has some way to go to beat Chris Sutton.

The Rovers legend remains joint fourth on the all-time list of the fastest ever Premier League goalscorers for his blink-and-you-miss-it strike at Everton in the 1995 title winning season.

Sutton scored after just 13 seconds in the April Fools Day clash at Goodison Park, a result which he later claimed was key to lifting the trophy a month later.

He told the Lancashire Telegraph two years ago: “I think the Everton game would sum up the mentality we had at the time. We went 2-0 up early on and then had to hang on for dear life.”

Alan Shearer grabbed the second goal after six minutes to give Kenny Dalglish’s side a perfect start, but Graham Stuart got one back for the Toffees in the 24th minute and Rovers had to withstand plenty of pressure to secure the 2-1 win.

Sutton’s goal was the fastest at the time, but has since been overtaken by three other strikes. Two share the top spot on 10 seconds - Ledley King’s 20-yarder for Tottenham against Bradford in 2000 and Shearer’s striker for Newcastle against Manchester City in 2003, when he charged down goalkeeper Carlo Nash’s clearance and poked home.

Australian Mark Viduka was a second slower off the mark for Leeds against Charlton in 2001.

Sutton has got company on 13 seconds as he is is matched by Dwight Yorke’s goal for Aston Villa against Coventry in the same year, plus Stoke goalkeeper Asmir Begovic’s lucky punt against Southampton in 2013.

Jesus Navas is a second further back with his goal against Spurs the same year.
