OWEN Coyle wants a repeat of the away performance at Derby County when his side run out at Ashton Gate tomorrow afternoon.

Rovers secured a 2-1 win over the Rams at the iPro Stadium a week after beating Rotherham 4-2 at Ewood Park - the two-match September success streak their best of the campaign so far.

Now, after Tuesday night’s home victory over Nottingham Forest, the manager is desperate to repeat the feat as he looks to move his side further away from the relegation zone.

Tomorrow’s fixture is expected to witness a record number of home fans at Ashton Gate for 26 years, with more than 20,000 tickets already snapped up by Robins supporters at the new-look stadium.

But Coyle is backing his side to rise to the occasion. He said: “This league is about momentum, trying to put your stamp on games and get the points. Will it be difficult? Absolutely.

“Bristol City have invested off the field with what feels like a new stadium and the fans have turned out in their numbers to support the team.

“The club themselves have also invested in a lot of players and spent some big money in the right places.

“So it will be a tough game, but we know if we are at our best, whether it’s home or away, we can go and pick up points.

“That’s the way it’s got to be and we’ll look for the same level of performance as we had at Derby.

“I felt the Birmingham performance was fine until we were decimated with our attacking players, which curtailed our threat.

“But if we perform as we did at Derby we’re more than capable of going there and picking up points.”

He added: “The players should be feeling good about themselves in terms of how hard they’re working and we’ve got to keep bringing that every game.

“We’re trying to build that feel good factor and that environment at the training ground and the stadium.

“It doesn’t happen overnight and you have to keep driving forward and knowing the plan and the vision you have.”

Gary Johnson’s side had some momentum of their own after a four-match winning run that was bought to a rude halt by defeats at Cardiff City and Queens Park Rangers.

But Coyle admits there is plenty to admire about the Robins, who he says have a number of threats to add to their eight-goal on-loan striker Tammy Abraham.

“They are a very technical team, very pleasing on the eye and they have some wonderful players,” he said.

“Along with Abraham, I think Lee Tomlin’s a wonderful player - a real quality individual - and they have a number of threats.

“(Aaron) Wilbraham, the big lad, is powerful and puts himself about.

“So I’m expecting a good footballing game, but I think it’s a game that will suit us in terms of passing and moving the ball.

“As always in the Championship, you’re away from home and it will be a tough venue.

“We are looking forward to it and I’m sure the players are looking forward to getting out there and trying to go and win another game. To do that they’re going to have to be at their best both physically and mentally.”
