IPSWICH Town boss Mick McCarthy admits today’s match at Blackburn Rovers is one both sides need to take something from.

Rovers will go into the Ewood Park encounter on the back of two consecutive 1-0 defeats before the international break which ensured they slipped back into the relegation places

Ipswich are in worse form. They have failed to win or score in any of their last four matches.

The Tractor Boys, who are five points above Rovers, have also lost their last five trips to Ewood Park.

And McCarthy, whose side host Burton Albion on Tuesday, said: “I’m looking forward to them. Great games.

“Blackburn away, we’ve not had a lot there for as long as I can remember, so we need to get something, and then, of course, Burton here is going to be a huge game.”

Rovers have also found goals hard to come by of late with only six sides having scored fewer so far this season in the Championship.

McCarthy reckons they are still struggling to come to terms with the loss of ex-Ipswich striker Jordan Rhodes to Middlesbrough for £11m in January.

The former Republic of Ireland manager, who saw star forward Daryl Murphy move to Newcastle United in the summer, said: “Strange that when you lose goalscorers, isn’t it?

“It happens to us all, it’s the process of football and that’s just the way it is.

“It’s not been going particularly well for them as it hasn’t been for us, so it’s going to be a bit of a dogged scrap. We need to get something from Blackburn.

“They haven’t got bad players, that’s for certain. Danny Graham, Sam Gallagher, they took Marvin Emnes on loan from Swansea, so they’ve got a fair strike force.

“I guess they’ve been a bit like us, when they’ve lost it’s been by a single goal. They’re finding it a little bit tough at the minute. Both of us need a result, don’t we?”

On the back of Rhodes’ departure Rovers owners Venky’s sanctioned the sales of captain Grant Hanley to Newcastle and Shane Duffy to Brighton & Hove Albion for a combined £10m in the summer.

And McCarthy said: “They lost two of the best in the Championship really, Shane Duffy and Grant Hanley.

“Replacing that settled pairing is really difficult. Let’s hope we can capitalise on that. I’m not feeling sorry for them, believe me.”

McCarthy, who has never won in October during his four years in charge of the Tractor Boys, added: “I always set off with the intention that we’ve got to go and get something from the place.

“We’ve had poor results at Blackburn, but the position that we’re in and with the results we’ve just had it wouldn’t matter where we were playing, who we were playing.

“We really need to get something out of the game and that’s what we’ll be trying to do.”
