SEAN Dyche has hailed his side’s impact from set-pieces in both boxes after corner kicks led to goals from Jeff Hendrick and Michael Keane in the win over Watford.

Hendrick directly headed in Steven Defour’s first half corner, before Keane nodded in a cross from the Belgian in the second half after his initial set-piece had been cleared.

Burnley developed a frailty for conceding headed goals from set plays in the Premier League campaign of 2014/15, but so far only Islam Slimani has headed past Tom Heaton in the Premier League, with that coming from a free-kick out wide, and Dyche is happy with his side’s work from set-pieces so far.

“They’re always important, roughly 30 per cent of goals are scored from set plays, so we’ve got to defend them well and deliver with them, and we’ve done well over the last year,” said the Burnley boss.

“It’s important again, an important detail within a game, and has to be addressed. It’s another part of your armoury.”

Keane’s goal against the Hornets on Monday was his first Premier League strike and Dyche is delighted with the 23-year-old’s form so far this season.

“It was a fantastic goal, he stays to task, he’s getting grappled everywhere, and he stays fully focused on the ball, it’s a fantastic header,” he said.

“He’s improving. Two years ago he was a very young centre half playing in the Premier League and I had to dip him in and out, but he’s learned and continues to improve and be impressive.”

Monday was also an impressive night for Sam Vokes, who returned to the starting line-up as a lone striker, with Andre Gray beginning his four-game ban.

“It’s so important if a striker is up there on his own he plays well, and he did,” said Dyche.

“He did all the ugly stuff, made good decisions when to press and when he didn’t, good decisions to ease them into shapes with the ball, and won a lot of headers.

“He’s unlucky not to nick a goal, the movement where he’s just off-side is fantastic, a lovely slot from Lowts, but he’s sharp, and for the first goal he’s sharp to try and nick Jeff Hendrick’s header, he’s active in the box and that’s what you want your strikers to be.”
