A FRUSTRATED Marvin Emnes is eager to make up for lost time – and help Blackburn Rovers climb up the table.

The striker became Rovers boss Owen Coyle’s 12th and final signing of the summer after joining on loan from Swansea City until January 15.

Emnes is in line to make his debut for the club in Saturday’s trip to QPR which would be his first competitive first-team appearance since March.

The Dutchman made a permanent £1.5m transfer to Swansea in the summer of 2014 after scoring 31 goals in 162 games for Middlesbrough.

But Emnes fell out of favour last season and made just three appearances after Garry Monk, the manager who signed him, was sacked.

The former Holland Under-21 international was linked with a move to Leeds United, who are now managed by Monk, and he also had offers from Spain and Germany.

But in the final hours of transfer deadline day Emnes decided on Rovers after boss Coyle gave him assurances about how much and where he would play if he impresses enough to be selected.

“It’s been difficult, hard and busy (trying to find a new club), taking phone calls day in and day out, trying to make a decision,” said Emnes, who scored the only goal of the game as Rovers beat Accrington Stanley 1-0 in a behind-closed-doors friendly yesterday.

“But I’ve made my decision now and I feel really good about it. I just want to get playing again.

“If you don’t get a chance when you think you deserve it, it’s quite difficult and hard.

“I just had to get on with it and now I’ve got a new chance and I’m happy with that.

“It’s always a good thing if the manager wants you to come and play for him as it means you are going to play games.

“Now it’s up to me to work hard, enjoy it, and get into the team.”

Emnes will rival top-scorer Anthony Stokes, Danny Graham and fellow loanee Sam Gallagher for a starting place up front for Rovers.

“I spoke to the manager and he gave me a good feeling,” said Emnes, who knows Graham and goalkeeper Jason Steele from Middlesbrough, who he joined for £3.2m from Sparta Rotterdam in 2008.

“He spoke to me about how he wants to use me and these are the type of things I need.

“I have to make sure the club I go to I’m going to be able to play and be in my right position. My best position is striker or number 10 but I can play anywhere behind the strikers. There are a couple of options so we will see.”

Despite his lack of game time Emnes confirmed he will be ready to face QPR at Loftus Road where Rovers will attempt to record their first victory of the season and move off the bottom of the early standings.

“I spoke to the players and it seems they have been playing some good football,” said Emnes, whose only competitive action so far this season came for Swansea’s Under-23s in the Checkatrade Trophy.

“Sometimes it goes your way and sometimes not but it’s still early in the season, there are a lot of games to come, and if we can win a couple of games we will be back in the picture.”
