BURNLEY transfer target Kamil Grosicki has revealed his frustration after seeing a dream move to the Premier League dashed late on transfer deadline day.

The 28-year-old Rennes player chartered a private jet on Wednesday afternoon to take him from Warsaw to Manchester Airport so he could get the deal done with Turf Moor chiefs.

But despite arriving with three hours to spare before the 11pm cut-off point, the agreement fell flat at the last minute and he will instead return to his French club side after completing international duty.

Reports in Poland suggest the Ligue 1 outfit demanded more money late on, but it is also understood that an agreement was not reached between Burnley and the player.

Speaking to journalists in his homeland, Grosicki said: “There were complications.

“When I landed in Manchester it was still three hours to the transfer deadline, but many things were still not agreed.

“We were negotiating for almost two hours but we couldn’t reach agreement.

“If I sign, what they offer me I wouldn’t be happy at all.

“My dream was to play in Premier League and I was close, but I hope maybe I will get another opportunity to play in England.

“The deal was close. Burnley really wanted to have me and they were willing to pay big money.

“On the final straight, everything went wrong.”

The failed Grosicki deal came hours after the ink had dried on a £10.5million switch for Derby County midfielder Jeff Hendrick, which broke the club’s transfer record for the second time in two weeks following Steven Defour’s £7.5m switch from Anderlecht.

But despite the Irishman and Belgian more than filling the gap left by the summer departures of Joey Barton and David Jones, Burnley manager Sean Dyche wanted some more pace out wide.

However, the summer spending at the club did top the £20m mark, with Charlton pair Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Nick Pope, as well as high-profile loan signings Jon Flanagan and Patrick Bamford now also in the ranks.

Grosciki, whose country take on Kazakhstan in their opening World Cup qualifier on Sunday night, now faces an interesting return to his club who he says ‘treated him unfairly’.

He said: “I was not treated with respect - different words and promises which at the last moment had been cancelled.

“I was treated unfairly; the story ended uncool.

“Let’s see how my situation will develop in France.

“On Wednesday fell very much strong words, one on the other.

“I have a long contract with Rennes, I played for this team the best, but I am disappointed in some people.”
