BURNLEY cross the Pennines tomorrow as they face Bradford City in the third of their six pre-season friendlies this summer.

So far boss Sean Dyche has changed all 10 outfield players at the break in warm-ups with Stade Nyonnais in Switzerland and Morecambe on Tuesday night.

But that could change at Valley Parade tomorrow with the Clarets chief considering giving some members of his squad a longer run out against their League One opponents.

The fixture against Stuart McCall’s side marks the end of the third week of pre-season training, with a camp in Evian-les-Bains sandwiched in between two weeks at Gawthorpe.

So far it’s all been about fitness and match sharpness for Burnley, but the focus is set to change with the opening weekend of the Premier League season just three weeks away.

After tomorrow’s clash the Clarets have games left at Bolton and Glasgow Rangers, and they finish their pre-season campaign at home to La Liga side Real Sociedad on Friday, August 5.

Speaking after the 1-1 draw at the Globe Arena on Tuesday, Dyche said: “It was two 45s again, that’s only the second 45 they’ve had after Nyon, it’s just raising the bar each time. We may shift it again on Saturday and some play a few more minutes and some less.

“At this stage we’ve done no tactical work or set-pieces, it’s purely fitness, but we’ll start adding that in as pre-season goes on.”

Dyche has welcomed back Tom Heaton and Stephen Ward to the fold this week after their time away at Euro 2016, while new signing Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Wales striker Sam Vokes are set to return next week.

Heaton was keen to get back into action on Tuesday, but he could feature tomorrow, while Ward has also returned in good condition after starting three of Republic of Ireland’s four games in France.

“It’s three important players and international footballers, it’s four if you include Johann,” said Dyche. “Tom and Wardy are back in training so they’ll start progressing.

“They’ve had a limited period out so they won’t be far behind. I’ve already spoken to Tom and Wardy. Tom wanted to play (on Tuesday), but it was me who said no. Wardy looks in great shape, he did a couple of tests today and he looks good, and so does Johann. They’ve been playing and training most of the summer.

“Vokesy has a bit more time and Johann has another couple of days.”

Ashley Barnes and Lukas Jutkiewicz – who both missed most of last season with cruciate knee ligament injuries – have come through two 45 minute appearances so far and Dyche is pleased with their progression.

“They’ve got a chance to get a pre-season in. They’re showing signs of getting back to fitness and these run outs are very important,” he said.
