I’M not surprised that Burnley haven’t done any real transfer business yet, I think it starts to pick up when they return for pre-season training.

It is frustrating though, because I believe Burnley need to bring a few in, so they could do with one or two quite quickly.

I think they probably need four quality players to come in that go straight into the starting XI.

The quicker the first one comes in then you make a statement to the other players you’re trying to get in, it lets everyone know you mean business.

You don’t want to be going into the Swansea game with the 11 that got you up minus Barton. I don’t think that would be good enough.

I think they need to get players in quickly, get them in for some of pre-season. You don’t want that Joey Barton scenario where it takes them a few weeks to get up to speed and it’s mid-September before someone is playing.

It’s not easy, Sean Dyche and the team have got a lot to do behind the scenes, but it needs to be done as quickly as possibly and it can give everyone a lift.

Midfield is the key area for me, all the way across the midfield.

There’s a lot of hard-working players in there who are good for the team and keep the shape, but there’s not enough quality.

The other key question is the tactics, will it be 4-4-2 every week? People say Leicester did it but Shinji Okazaki doesn’t really play as an out-and-out striker, he drops into the hole.

We could do with midfielders who can play in the hole and play deeper. Something to give the squad a bit more tactical flexibility so we can mix it up more.

The last thing you want to be in the Premier League is predictable. There are times when we’ll have to go 4-5-1, when we’re holding on for a point away from home or even holding on at Turf Moor.

There’ll be times when you need to shut the back door and offer some pace on the counter attack.

Over in France, Sam Vokes and Wales have done brilliantly, his confidence must be sky-high. He’s leading the attack for a team in the European Championship quarter-finals, it was just a shame he couldn’t bury that header against Northern Ireland.

It’s a shame for Tom Heaton to be knocked out with England, but the blame lies with Roy Hodgson for me.

A lot of people can question the players but I don’t believe that they don’t care, they’re not liked that.

It was tactically confused, you’ve got a striker on the right wing and out-of-form winger on the left.

The whole shape of the team was wrong, it was confused throughout the tournament. Why are you playing with wide men when there was none really in the squad?
