DANNY Graham is not just a good signing for the Blackburn Rovers fans – it is for the players too.

When good players come into your squad it makes you feel more confident about where the club is trying to go and, in many ways, makes you want to get better yourself.

With the arrival of Danny, and Anthony Stokes, it’s clear Owen Coyle and Rovers are not just signing players for the sake of it. They are bringing in players who are going to improve the team.

And, all being well, I do believe Danny and Anthony will be successful signings.

Particularly Danny as we know from last season, and from one look at his track record, that he can score goals in the Championship.

Okay he struggled at Sunderland but we saw last season that he knows where the net is and the great thing about him is he puts a shift in every week.

You’ve got to praise Owen Coyle for the business he’s done so far. He came into the job late, he’s having to win the fans over, but he’s wasted no time he getting in good players.

It helps that he’s a chirpy character. He’s a happy, bubbly fella who you rarely see feeling down.

And it’s clear that has helped when it came to convincing Danny and Anthony to sign.

Now hopefully his approach will rub off on the other players, too, and Rovers can get off to a good start to the season.

We’ve still got a while to go before that, though, and it’s good to see that Owen has targeted an attacking midfielder because the last few seasons we’ve really relied on the strikers to get goals.

When Rudy Gestede went to Aston Villa and Jordan Rhodes went to Middlesbrough we would have really struggled had it not been for Danny.

When I used to play some managers would sit the squad down at the start of the season and say, ‘right, I want 15 goals from the strikers, 10 from the attacking midfielders, and five each from the centre-halves’.

If we can get that I don’t think we’d be that far way because the defence improved a lot last season.

Of course that has led to interest in Grant Hanley. A week doesn’t seem to go by when he’s not linked with a move away.

But hopefully he’ll see what Owen Coyle is trying to do and he’ll stay.

And that comes back to my original point about quality signings being good for the players as well as the fans.

Not too long ago we didn’t know where it was going but it does look like we’re going to have a competitive squad.

Danny’s and Anthony’s signings have given everyone a lift and a bit of hope.
