BLACKBURN Rovers boss Owen Coyle is closing in on the signature of the highly rated Premier League youngster he believes will add an exciting dynamic to his midfield.

Coyle is keeping tight-lipped on the identity of the player until the season-long loan deal is done and dusted.

But it is understood to be Manchester City’s Jack Byrne, a 20-year-old Republic of Ireland Under-21 international, who has spent the last year on loan in the Dutch top-flight, where he thrived in a struggling Cambuur side, scoring four goals in 27 games and racking up a string of assists.

Coyle, who yesterday completed the signing of Danny Graham, said: “I’m still looking to add a very creative midfielder and there’s certainly one who I’ve got my eye on.

“He’s young and he’s only going to get better but that one is a little bit more complicated.

“He’s at an elite club and it will be a year-long loan. We’re working very hard on it, we’re well down the road on it, and if we get this kid I’ll be excited. I get excited watching him and he can only get better.

“I’ve been fortunate I’ve had one or two of those type of players before but I get really excited when I watch this one and hopefully we can get it over the line in the next couple of days.”

Coyle is also thought to have seen off competition from Ipswich Town to the signing of out-of-contract Bolton Wanderers winger Liam Feeney.
