IT would give everyone at the club a lift if Rovers could get the Danny Graham deal over the line.

It looks like Danny wants to come here, and Owen Coyle has come out and said that he is a fan of his, so hopefully the owners can make it happen.

Finding the back of the net was Rovers’ biggest problem last season. They might have been improved in defence but they just did not score enough.

But I think we saw enough of Danny in the second half of the season to suggest that he will get goals in the Championship.

His past record also suggests that. So if this deal can be done, let’s get it done.

Not only would it give Owen a striker to lead his line, it would also be a big boost to the players and, most importantly, to the fans.

It would give the fans a bit of hope and a bit of belief that the owners are going to back Owen.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think we’re in a position to give him fortunes, but he is going to need money to rebuild his squad.

And it does need rebuilding. Sixteen senior players is nowhere near enough.

The Championship is a tough division. It’s never-ending where games come thick and fast.

You need a big squad because there are that many games.

So, unless any of the out-of-contract lads are re-signed back up, you’re looking at eight, nine or 10 new signings.

And a lot of those signings have to come up front.

Hopefully we can get Danny Graham and he can become the 15-20 goal-a-season man that Jordan Rhodes always was for us.

But we need more – and, particularly, we need a bit of pace. I can’t remember the last time we had that.

Players with pace upset defenders. Jamie Vardy is a prime example of that.

If you’ve got a striker with pace it makes it really tough for a defender because he won’t know whether to drop off or get tight.

You don’t just want players who can play with their back to the goal, which Danny Graham is brilliant at.

You’ve got to have a different option and have players who can turn a back four and get in behind.

But, for now, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. We’ve got to sign Danny first.

But if we could get him, and then also get a few more faces in before the start of pre-season, things will start to look up a bit again.
