FINDING A WAY TO WIN

How many times have we said it this season now? It may sound like a broken record but it's so true, Burnley just find a way to get the job done.

The nerves were obvious in the first half, it was a disjointed performance and Matt Ingram's goal was hardly threatened, in fact Tom Heaton was called into action more often.

Lancashire Telegraph:

But you always felt that somehow, someway, the Clarets would get the win they required. They improved after the break without hammering the Rangers door down, but when a set-piece arrived in a promising position they knew it was their moment.

That ability to conjure three points when one looked most likely, or one point when defeat was on the cards has been the difference this season between Burnley and the rest.

A FITTING HERO

If you were writing a script for another memorable Bank Holiday Monday on the Turf then surely it would have ended with Sam Vokes as the hero of the hour.

Two years ago he watched the run-in on crutches. There was no denying the part he played in getting Burnley to the Premier League in 2013/14, but it wouldn't have felt the same as he hobbled around the pitch after victory at Wigan.

That knee ligament injury wrecked his Premier League campaign as well. Now he's back to his very best and how fitting that it was he who headed home David Jones' free-kick.

If one player from the class of 13/14 deserved to relive this moment all over again then it was the Wales international.

FINISHING WITH THE TITLE

Any promotion has to be celebrated and there is no doubt that the Burnley squad enjoyed a couple of well earned drinks on Monday night, but the message from them was clear.

After taking in their lap of honour around Turf Moor every member of the Clarets squad who spoke to the media was quick to point out that they want the title, and they want it badly.

Lancashire Telegraph:

It was the target from the moment the Clarets were relegated 12 months ago, and it was restated in that now famous team meeting after defeat at Hull on Boxing Day that has turned this season around.

Burnley went up as play-off winners in 2008/09 and runners-up in 2013/14. Now they want the silverware. They've been the best team in the division and now they want to prove it by finishing top of the pile.
