ALTRINCHAM recorded their biggest National League win in almost two years in their first home match since the departure of manager Lee Sinnott after beating Aldershot Town 4-0 at home on Saturday.

It was only their second victory in 15 outings and heaped misery on their Hampshire visitors, who recently lost 8-2 at Chester FC.

Damian Reeves started the rout on the half hour, converting from close range, while the influential Josh Ginnelly, captain Jake Moult and Jordan Sinnott all found the net in the second half as Alty moved up to 20th place in the table.

The game started fairly evenly with Ginnelly curling a shot narrowly over the bar before MK Dons loanee Giorgio Rasulo fired just wide for Shots.

James Lawrie was unlucky not to be awarded a penalty midway through the first half when he was seemingly bundled over in the box after getting on the end of a superb ball from Ginnelly.

And Aldershot's Nathan Ralph was fortunate only to see yellow when he clattered Sinnott, sparking a 14-man melee.

Alty deservedly took the lead in the 32nd minute when Lawrie lashed a low shot into the goalmouth and Reeves was alert to the opportunity to prod the ball home.

The second half was only two minutes old when Alty's on-loan Burnley winger Ginnelly scored a superb goal, running more than 50 yards down the left channel before clipping a shot across goal into the corner.

Any doubts about the outcome were settled shortly after the hour mark when Lawrie was blatantly pushed in the box as he tried to get on the end of a Sinnott cross and Moult netted from the spot.

Alty's fourth goal arrived in the 69th minute when Ginnelly again impressed. His cross from the left was volleyed home by Sinnott for his second goal in as many matches.

Aldershot enjoyed some late possession but scarcely troubled Alty keeper Tim Deasy.

The win lifted Alty out of the bottom four ahead of a vital televised clash at Halifax on Saturday (kick off 12.45pm).

The Robins return to the J Davidson Stadium on Easter Monday when Southport are the visitors (3pm).
