BLACKBURN Rovers boss Paul Lambert has so far been unable to make any moves in the emergency loan window – but he is still trying.

“We’re getting there,” said Lambert on the strength of his squad after making six January signings.

“We’re still not where we want to be. There are still one or two pieces of the jigsaw that we have to rectify if we can do it.

“I know whatever front three we go with we’ll definitely be a handful; whether it’s (Danny) Graham, (Jordi) Gomez, (Tony) Watt, (Simeon) Jackson or (Chris) Brown, going forward I think we’ve definitely got quality.”

Lambert is looking to strengthen the left-hand side of his team and, asked if he has made any progress since the emergency loan window opened on Tuesday, he said: “There were a couple of things but they never materialised.

“But that’s what’s going to happen. You’ve got to go and try certain things. Some managers will say ‘maybe’ and some will say ‘no, we can’t do it’. It’s a difficult window but it’s something we will try and do.”

Asked whether he expects any developments before tomorrow’s home clash with Hull City, Lambert said: “I’m not so sure. Sometimes they fall into your lap and happen really quickly like the Jordi Gomez one.

“If it’s viable and feasible to do, then we’ll look at it.”

Reports in Scotland have linked Rovers and Premier League outfit Bournemouth with a move for fit-again versatile Celtic star Charlie Mulgrew.

The Scotland international, who can play left-back, centre-back and in midfield, is set to become a free agent in the summer.

Former Celtic star Lambert is understood to be an admirer in the 29-year-old.
