GOALKEEPER Jason Steele was thrilled to see Blackburn Rovers sign Tony Watt – even though he was sick of the sight of him.

The on-loan striker is in line to make his home debut in this Saturday’s showdown with Hull City.

Watt has already given the travelling blue and white army a glimpse of his talent.

He marked his Rovers bow with a goal in the 3-0 FA Cup fourth-round victory at Oxford United.

And Watt followed that up with another purposeful display in last Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough.

But the visit of the promotion-pushing Tigers will be the first time the 22-year-old has played at Ewood Park – in a blue and white halved shirt, at least.

Back in September he was wearing the red of his parent club Charlton Athletic when he impressed in a Rovers 3-0 win.

And Watt again caught the eye when the Championship rivals shared a 1-1 draw at the Valley last month.

That was the third time the Scotland Under-21 international had faced Rovers this season.

As Watt starred for his then on-loan club Cardiff City in a 1-0 home success over Paul Lambert’s side at the start of the year.

On each occasion Steele came off the field wishing the former Celtic starlet was lining up alongside him rather than against him.

And the keeper got his wish after Rovers boss Lambert swooped for Watt on loan until the end of the season with a view to a permanent deal in the summer.

“Tony’s Tony,” said Steele. “Every time I’ve played against him, and I’ve played against him three times this season, he’s done my head in!

“You come off the pitch and you think, ‘yes he’s a player’.

“Sometimes you come off the pitch and players aren’t as good as you think they are, but every time I have come off the pitch after facing him I’ve rung my dad and said, ‘he’s a player’.

“All the lads feel the same. We’re all dead close here and when you come off the pitch you give your mate a nudge and say, ‘he’s not bad, is he?’

“And we’ve all said it the three times we have played against him this season.

“We’re definitely lucky to have him and hopefully he gives us that something we have been missing.”

Fellow forward Danny Graham and midfield playmaker Jordi Gomez, along with centre-back Elliott Ward, are also expected to make their Rovers home debuts this weekend.

Watt, Graham and Gomez lined-up in a three-man attack against Middlesbrough with the latter making himself an instant fan favourite with a superb goal.

And Lambert said: “We had to go on the front foot and I decided to play Gomez in behind and I thought he was unbelievable.

“The three of them caused havoc at certain times.”
