BURNLEY are reported to have turned down a £7million offer for defender Michael Keane from Stoke City.

The 23-year-old joined the Clarets in the summer of 2014 on loan from Manchester United and went on to make the deal permanent the following January, in a move worth around £2m.

An ever-present in Burnley's back line this season, he has come under the watch of a number of Premier League clubs, with Everton believed to be keen suitors.

But Stoke have also been monitoring the former England-Under 21 international, and now appear to have tried to steal a march on the situation with a reported bid of £5m plus a further £2m worth of incentives.

Earlier this month Keane spoke of his intention to stay at Turf Moor, saying: "I'm really happy here at Burnley and I won't be going anywhere in January.

"I want to try and get this club back to the Premier League like everybody else. Everyone in the team, the manager and the fans have been great with me, so there's no reason for me to leave."
