Joey Barton got the ball rolling on 14 minutes, robbing Darren Potter of possession before coolly finishing with his left foot for his first goal for the club.

The advantage was doubled 30 seconds into the second half as Sam Vokes skipped past two tackles and clipped the ball beyond Martin.

Andre Gray made it three when he headed Barton’s free kick home, before Matt Lowton got his first goal for the club, driving home George Boyd’s cross.

Boyd was then tripped when through on goal by Antony Kay, with the centre back given his marching orders, before Boyd scored himself, firing into the roof of the net as he broke down the inside right channel.

It was a second stunning away victory for the Clarets in the space of four days, as they followed up Saturday’s 2-1 FA Cup win at Middlesbrough in style.
