BLACKBURN Rovers boss Paul Lambert is hopeful Doneil Henry and Corry Evans will be fit for Friday’s home clash with Rotherham United.

Defender Henry sat out last Saturday’s 2-0 win over Bristol City as a precaution after complaining of tightness in his hamstring.

And Evans was replaced by Danny Guthrie 76 minutes into the Ashton Gate success after feeling pain in his groin.

Fellow midfielder Darragh Lenihan, who travelled with the Rovers squad but missed out on a place on the bench, is also nursing a back problem.

But while Lenihan is struggling to train again this week, Henry and Evans should be back sooner.

That means midfielder Jason Lowe remains Rovers’ sole long-term injury victim.

Lambert, speaking this morning, said: “Hopefully Doneil will train today.

“Corry was feeling his groin but hopefully he’ll train today too.

“Darragh has got a bit of a back problem at the minute but hopefully it’ll just be a couple of days for him.”

Henry’s first loan spell at Rovers last season came to a premature end after he sustained a serious hamstring injury in his third appearance for the club.

The Canada international has played only one full competitive match since he went off in the 3-1 victory at Charlton Athletic on March 14.

And Lambert, who brought Henry back to Rovers last month, said: “We just had to watch that he never broke down again. That’s important because, if he did break down, we’d have to send him back to West Ham.

“We have to manage him a little bit. I think he was feeling the effects of the training last week, so that was why we decided to leave him out.

“It’s been a long time, not playing and training, and he’s come into this where it’s high intensity.

“We’ve just got to man-manage him to make sure he’s okay.”

Of Lowe, who is aiming to return early in the New Year, Lambert said: “He’s doing all right and hopefully we’ll see him in January because he’s the one lad I’ve not seen at all.

“But he’s doing well and it’s just a matter of trying to get him fit.”
