DINO Radice has heaped special praise on prospect Cameron Boulter as the rookie fly-half played well in Blackburn’s second win of the campaign.

Boulter had a hand in both of Burn’s tries, one in the first half and the other early in the second period, as Blackburn produced a promising display at Ramsgreave Drive.

The win, albeit against the bottom club, will do much to restore confidence however following successive losses to Altrincham Kersal and Wilmslow in recent weeks.

But coach Radice says it was Boulter who caught the eye when, once again, the Blackburn coach was forced to shuffle his pack with injuries and unavailability calls stretching his squad resources to the limit.

“It was an excellent performance from the boys and Cameron was superb,” said Radice.

“He’s young, alert, and plays off the cuff – he brings the team something very different.

“Most of all, though, he asks defenders big questions and that is very encouraging.”

Blackburn were ahead early on, a Leon Fifield penalty putting the first points on the board.

And ten minutes later they stretched their lead further, with Boulter in the thick of the action as ‘Burn landed a converted try.

Anton Garcia and Boulter combined in terrific style, before Zac Child charged over the line.

Then Fifield added another penalty on the half hour, extending their lead to 13-0.

Blackburn threatened to add to their points total again and they did just that five minutes into the second half as Harry Pilkington set the ball rolling for Boulter.

He, in turn, showed quick hands to off load to Jake Maher who scored, with Fifield adding the two extra points.

Although Broughton Park landed a converted try, Radice was satisfied with Blackburn’s performance as they continue to find their feet in North One West.

“We are making small steps rather than big leaps and that’s how it is going to be this season and we’ll do it with patience, calmness and common sense, because it will be a campaign of transition,” added Radice.

“The last time we played at this level I think we went a year without winning, but we’ve won twice in our first six league games and that’s progress.”

Radice will be looking for his team to build on last weekend’s success when they travel to Leigh on Saturday.

Leigh were promoted with Blackburn last season, but have lost all their matches so far.

“The crucial thing for Blackburn is to beat the teams around us, and give us that breathing space as the season progresses.

“Leigh is one of those teams, and so is Vale of Lune who we meet after that, so let’s go and get the job done and try and win three games in a row.”
