CRAIG Conway has not given up hope of winning a Scotland recall – but he insists his main focus is on helping Blackburn Rovers continue their climb up the table.

Conway has been a model of consistency and a source of 26 league goals for Rovers since his £100,000 move from Cardiff City in January 2014.

But, despite creating more assists than any other player in the Championship since the start of the 2013-14 season, Scotland boss Gordon Strachan has continued to overlook the winger.

And Conway, whose last Tartan Army cap came in November 2013, said: “I’ve always said if I’m doing well, I’ll always have a chance (of getting called-up).

“But I’m just focusing on being here and on helping us get up the league a little bit.

“If I can be involved internationally, obviously I want to be, but it’s not the be all and end all.

“I’m just focusing on Blackburn and helping us getting up the league.”

Rovers return to action on Saturday away to MK Dons where they will look to extend a four-match unbeaten run which has hauled them out of the bottom three and up to 15th.

Conway has played a major part in their reversal in form with his assist for Jordan Rhodes’ second goal in the 2-0 home win over Ipswich Town last time out his third of the campaign and his 29th since August 2013.

The 30-year-old is currently rated third behind Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Dale Stephens and Hull City centre-back Curtis Davies as the top Championship’s top performing player this season by football statistics website whoscored.com.

And Conway said: “I feel as though I’m playing well.

“My game at the end of the day is creating chances. I like doing that and that’s what I pride myself on.

“I like putting crosses in and every time I get the ball I look for Jordan and, last year, for Rudy (Gestede). The lads know I’m going to put it into the box and luckily the last few weeks they’ve been going in and somebody has been there to finish them.”

Conway was the provider of countless goals for Gestede before his £6m summer switch to Aston Villa.

But with the Benin international – who has been nominated for the African Footballer of the Year award – gone he admits he has had to change his game.

“You’ve got to try and pick somebody out more rather than putting it in an area because there are not many better than Rudy at attacking the ball – and he’s showed that by doing it in the Premiership,” said Conway, who has scored once this season after his deflected goal against Wolves on the opening day was credited as his.

“Jordan can score headed goals too, as he’s proven, but I do think now you’ve got to think about who you’re picking out and, in that respect, I’ve probably tried to add to my game.

“We’ve got a lot of good players in this team and we’re trying to pass to feet more rather than get it and put it into the box.”

Rovers right-back Adam Henley and on-loan striker Tom Lawrence will hope to win their first international caps tonight when Wales, who confirmed their Euro 2016 qualification at the weekend, welcome Andorra to the Cardiff City Stadium.
