BLACKBURN Rovers boss Gary Bowyer was delighted with the way his side defended from the front in Saturday’s home success over Ipswich Town.

Rovers ran out 2-0 winners thanks to a brace of first-half goals from top-scorer Jordan Rhodes.

But Bowyer was just as impressed by what Rhodes, his strike-partner Tom Lawrence, and wingers Ben Marshall and Craig Conway did without the ball.

He said: “The pressing from Jordan and Tom, in the first half especially, was infectious and set the tone for the whole game.

“You’ve got to press against Ipswich – as you’ve got to do against most teams in this division – because they’re so dangerous.

“It was infectious. Ben Marshall, who I thought was terrific, along with everyone else, got it started with a bit of pressing and it rubbed off on the front two.

“You ask two centre-halves, you ask (Ipswich manager) Mick McCarthy, who is an ex-centre-half, and there’s nothing worse than a centre-forward doing the defending bit as well.

“Their man job, of course, is to score goals, but when you’ve got strikers closing down and pressing like we had today, it caused them problems and set the tone for the game.

“I think what you saw out there was a team who had each other’s backs.”

Enthused with what they were seeing from the stands Rovers once again received great backing from the Ewood Park faithful.

And Bowyer said: “The supporters have been magnificent with us all season and today, like I said, it was the most complete team performance, and I think you have to include the supporters in that team performance.

“Particularly in the second half when we needed it, they rallied for us and they were terrific.”

Rovers return to action on Saturday week at MK Dons, who ended their five-match losing league run at the weekend when snatching a late 1-1 draw at Bristol City.

The Dons have headed to a mini training camp in Faro Portugal this week to prepare for the visit of Rovers, who have remained at Brockhall.
