BLACKBURN Rovers fans who attend every away game will travel 6,775 miles following their club this season.

Supporters will spend over 111 hours driving to and from away matches – an average round trip of four hours 50 minutes, according to new research.

Rovers fans have already completed their longest journey this season when they visited Brighton & Hove Albion on August 22 – a massive 592-mile round trip by car taking nearly nine hours.

Supporters will not only cover thousands of miles in support of Rovers, but are set to spend thousands of pounds in the process.

Fans who drive to every game will fork out an average of £924 on fuel and £220 on parking.

The research was conducted by JustPark, the parking app, which lets football fans book cut-price parking spaces on local people’s driveways.

Oliver Jones, from Chorley, has attended Rovers games, home and away for around 40 years.

He said fans are being priced out of following their teams.

“Away games are simply less affordable to the average fan than they used to be,” said Mr Jones.

“At one time I’d attend all the North West, Yorkshire and North East games and maybe a few further afield, like the Midlands.

“But the ticket prices make it less affordable.

“I think Leeds charge around £40 for a ticket and Burnley fans are being charged £41 with the coach travel to come to Ewood later this month.

“There are exceptions such as Wigan when they were in the Championship who charged lower prices so fans would travel in numbers. Birmingham City and Bolton have done something similar for Rovers games too.

“We have a core of loyal fans who go up and down the country, but for most fans they now have to pick and choose.”

Altogether, Championship clubs and their supporters will travel a total of 155,000 miles this season.
