WELL folks, I’ll be jetting off to New York tomorrow, but only for the day!

I can hear the gasps of incredulity. Is this man flying off on holiday, and if so why only on a day trip?

Okay, I’ll confess that might not be strictly the case, but it sure is a good line to impress your mates with?!

What I’ll actually be doing, along with many other Clarets supporters is popping over to Rotherham to watch Burnley at the grandly titled New York Stadium for their live match on Sky Sports — and you can be sure the new ground tickers will be out in force.

Let’s hope we christen it with an away victory, something we haven’t achieved in the town at the old Millmoor ground since Adrian Heath’s late penalty secured a 1-0 win for the first time in nine visits back in 1993.

After a slow start The Millers have picked themselves up to record impressive back-to-back wins against two top-ten teams in Cardiff and Birmingham City to edge themselves out of the relegation zone.

In view of that mini purple patch and the confidence that will bring, maybe a point would be a decent return for Burnley.

But what we cannot afford is a repeat of last Saturday’s early lapse of crucial concentration against a Reading side that took the game by the scruff of the neck from the off, to catch the Clarets stone cold with two goals in the first ten minutes.

For all our pressing the only return was a a superb volleyed goal from flying full back Tendayi Darikwa, who has got to be an early candidate for player of the season.

At the moment this lad looks every inch an adequate replacement for the excellent Kieran Trippier.

It was another defender on the scoresheet, which welcome as it is, does not constitute their main role.

Our forwards have been feeding off scraps so far this season but with the arrival of Joey Barton on the scene, who slipped effortlessly into his role when coming on as a substitute on Saturday, there just might be signs of that necessary creativity to supply our attackers which has been missing for a while.

And if we are successful with his assistance tomorrow, what better song for his initiation than a rendition of Frank Sinatra’s New York, New York?

Take it away Joey, and don’t forget to tilt the hat!
