LAST-GASP hero Jordan Rhodes hailed a ‘good point’ after he came to Blackburn Rovers’ rescue at Hull City on Saturday.

But the on-fire striker admits it will count for nothing if Rovers fail to follow it up with another positive result in this weekend’s visit of his former club Ipswich Town to Ewood Park.

Rhodes headed in Craig Conway’s corner 59 seconds into injury-time to earn Gary Bowyer’s side a dramatic 1-1 draw with high-flying Hull.

But the 25-year-old believes they should never have been in a position where they were left to chase the game.

Rhodes insists he was fouled by Curtis Davies when he was clean through on goal seconds before the Tigers opened the scoring.

“The goal that went against us was dubious as we felt the referee could have done us a favour just before they scored,” he said.

“It was 100 per cent a foul. Curtis Davies didn’t touch the ball and he wasn’t in a position to do so.

“I felt like I had opened the goal up, I could see Craig Conway coming in on my left, and I felt it was almost a two-on-one situation against their right-back Moses Odubajo. So, yes, I felt it was a tough call.

“We’re just not getting the rub of the green at the moment but, saying that, we don’t know what could have happened. It could have stayed 0-0 for the majority of the game and they might have nicked it and it could have been we nicked it 2-1 at the end with Hope Akpan’s chance.

“If that happens the decision would have been forgotten about and never mentioned, and we come away with the three points.

“That’s just what happened in the game and it’s better to come out with a point than nothing.

“A point is the least we deserved and it’s a good point coming to a place like this as they are a really good side.”

Rhodes was making his 150th appearance for Rovers since his club record £8m move from Huddersfield Town in August 2012.

His late equaliser means he has now scored 79 goals for the club.

And Rhodes said: “It’s gone better than I could have imagined it would have done so.

“Credit has to go to my team-mates and staff throughout my time here because without them and without their help, and without them creating chances, scoring goals wouldn’t be possible.”

Four of Rhodes’ 79 goals have come in five matches against Ipswich.

And, asked whether he fancied another this Saturday, he said: “If it’s me, if it isn’t me, it doesn’t matter, as long as we put in a good performance and get something from the game.

“A point today will mean nothing if we don’t go and pick something up against Ipswich.

“It would be perfect to go into the international break with a win but they are a tough side, they were in top six last season and they’ll have the same ambitions again this season after the good start they’ve had.

“So we’re going to have to be right on our game again to get something.”

Rovers boss Bowyer, whose team are now unbeaten in three matches, will certainly be without Jason Lowe against Ipswich after confirming the midfielder is to undergo a second operation on the foot injury that ruled him out for most of last season.

“It’s a massive blow to us and for the lad in particular,” said Bowyer, who will also need to check on the fitness of midfielder Danny Guthrie after he came off with a thigh injury early on against Hull.
