IT was a weekend to remember for Barlick Fell Runners star Jimmy Craig.

On Saturday he ran the fastest leg for Barlick, finishing 19th overall and just 50 seconds behind the leg winner, at the Northern Athletics Road Relays in Blackpool.

Next up was Chris Singleton, who pulled a few places back and brought the team home in 16th place.

Gary Shaw also had a quality run before Marc Hartley took up the baton and pulled three places back, leaving Barlick in with a sniff of a top-10 spot.

Tom Corrigan pulled another place back to get them up to 12th before Ian Livesey ran hard and pulled another spot back to ensure Barlick finished a superb 11th overall in the senior men’s standings and as the fastest Lancashire team.

The following day Craig beat title rival Ted Mason to win British Open Fell Running Association Embsay Fell Race.

Had Craig lost to Mason, then the race for the overall championship would have been over.

But after falling behind to the Wharfedale Harrier, he battled back to triumph in 18 minutes and 53 seconds.

Mason was five seconds behind in second with Clayton-le-Moors Harriers’ Danny Collinge the fastest under-23s man and third overall in 19mins 51secs.

Barlick’s Angela Donlan was the second lady home and the fastest LV40 in 26mins 22secs.

Blackburn Harriers, meanwhile, enjoyed a good day at the Northern Athletics Road Relays.

Their under-13s girls team of Eleesha Charnley, Jessica Watson and Amy Davies, who ran the sixth fastest time of the day, finished 12th.

And that performance was bettered by their U13s boys team of Daniel Brown, Leon Davies and Matt Ramsden. They were 11th with Ramsden recording the fifth fastest time on the day.

The U15s girls team, comprising Maddie Elliott, Chloe Bleeks and Hannah Cookson, also finished 11th, while the U17s men’s team of Liam Atkinson, Tom McKee and Zak Hargreaves were 17th.

Karl Billington, Joe Monk, Paul Guinan, Ben Fish, Ben Fogarty and Andy Buttery led the Harriers to an impressive 14th-placed finish with the club’s other senior men’s teams passing the post in 54th and 92nd.

Harriers’ senior women’s teams were 38th and 59th.
