SHANE Duffy has told his Blackburn Rovers team-mates to kick on after deadline day came and went without any further big name departures.

Rovers were weakened earlier in the summer after Rudy Gestede and Tom Cairney were sold and Josh King left after turning down a new contract.

But the Ewood Park exit door stayed shut on a quiet final day of the transfer window.

There were no new arrivals either. That means Rovers boss Gary Bowyer still has space for one more addition once the loan window reopens next Wednesday.

Bowyer, who is restricted to loans and free transfers, has made seven summer signings.

Centre-back Duffy believes his manager has put together a good squad.

But Bowyer’s side will go into the international break still searching for their first victory of the season.

Friday night’s 0-0 derby draw at home to fellow strugglers Bolton Wanderers stretched Rovers’ winless start to six matches in all competitions.

But Duffy is confident results will improve now that the window has closed.

He said: “Don’t get me wrong, it’s not the start that we would have wanted.

“But we got another point (on Friday) and now that we’ve got a break, and once we get the transfer window closed, we’ll have a settled squad and the aim has got to be to kick on.

“We just need to get on a good run. Four or five wins in this league and you never know where you can be.

“And I do believe it is a good squad. It’s just going to take time.

“We’ve brought in seven players and there’s been speculation about other players going.

“So hopefully the squad settles this week and we will go again.”

There was speculation yesterday that Crystal Palace had enquired about Rovers captain Grant Hanley.

But Hanley, who is in training with Scotland ahead of their Euro 2016 qualifying double header, was not subject to an approach.

Rovers, along with Bolton, were also linked with a move for Clarck N’Sikulu.

It was reported that the Championship rivals wanted to sign the Congolese striker, who plays for French second-tier outfit Evian, on loan with a view to a permanent move next summer.

But there is no chance the deal can happen now as Football League clubs are able only to sign domestic players during the loan window.

Rovers currently have 23 established players on their books.

They can have a maximum of 24 under the terms of their Financial Fair Play embargo.

If they reach 24 – and any new signing, regardless of age or experience, is viewed as established – they will be permitted to trade on a one out, one in basis.
