BURNLEY and Nelson warmed up for their big Worsley Cup showdown with Lancashire League victories yesterday.

League leaders Burnley consolidated their place at the top of the table with a victory over Rishton.

The eight wicket success was built around a fine knock from Vishal Tripathi as the leaders successfully chased down Rishton’s 216-7.

Nelson were also in impressive form as they defeated Haslingden.

Karrum Nazir took five wickets and Harrison Phelan four as Haslingden were dismissed in the final over of their innings for 123.

And after recovering from 88-4, Nelson’s Ryan Canning made 34 not out to see them over the line to a three wicket win despite a late wobble.

Ramsbottom remain eight points adrift of leaders Burnley as they eased to victory over struggling Colne.

Professional Daryn Smit made a superb 114 not out as Ramsbottom closed on 251-7. Tom Parton also made 34.

Smit then took five wickets to help dismiss Colne for 95 and secure a 156-run win. The South African took 5-26 as Simon Read chipped in with three wickets.

Enfield remain in the top four after a victory over Rawtenstall.

Adam Bracewell hit 75 and Lewis Wright 50 as Enfield made 206-6. And Rawtenstall couldn’t quite chase the target down as they fell 12 runs short.

Defending champions Lowerhouse are still in third after a low-scoring victory at Todmorden. The home side were dismissed for 107 and Lowerhouse got over the line to secure a three wicket success.

Church secured an impressive win as they got the better of East Lancs at Alexandra Meadows.

The visitors made 254-4 and then restricted East Lancs to 183-8. Usman Tariq hit an unbeaten 114 at the top of the order for the visitors.

Craig Fergusson made 44 and Sam Holt added 34 for Church while Sharhrukh Khan took two wickets for the home side.

East Lancashire pro JP De Villiers made 50 and Mohammed Bhada added 45 but it wasn’t enough to prevent the hosts from slipping to defeat. Kamran Basharat took 4-53 for Church including the key wicket of South African De Villiers.

Accrington were also comfortable winners away at Bacup. The hosts could only manage 170 all out in reply to Accrington’s 244-7.
