Sudnik, bowling first change claimed memorable figures of 6-12 from his nine over spell as firm favourites Settle were dismissed for just 80 runs, chasing 169 to become champions for the first time in a decade.

But professional Imran Khalid- fourth out at 37- and Saud Ahmed were involved in heated discussions with umpire Mick Evans after their respective dismissals.

Left hander Khalid, given caught caught by wicketkeeper Mark Groom for Settle’s top score of 16, appeared to gesture towards the crowd as he walked off.

League officials are set to investigate both incidents.

However, nothing could take the gloss of their historic win for Metcalf whose 72 helped lay the platform for victory.

“We were definitely the underdogs and we did well to get to 168,” said Immanuel’s delighted 22-year-old captain.

“We were struggling after the pro (Dan Sartori) got out early. And I thought we were 10 or 20 runs short.

“We knew we needed early wickets when Settle battled and we did that before Sudnik bowled the spell of his life.

“We were keen to get the pro and Robbie Davidson early, which we did, and after that we didn’t give them a chance.”

On the major talking points Metcalf, who shared a vital stand with Oliver Clare (35) added diplomatically: “The umpires have a hard job but I think we deserved the win.”

Delighted Sudnik said: “Everything I bowled looked like taking wickets apart from the odd couple of wides.

“It came out swinging a little bit and the batters weren’t sure what to do. We took our catches superbly and some of those in the slips were phenomenal. They all contributed to winning the game.”

Sudnik had no doubts the umpires made the right calls. ”There was nothing wrong with Ahmed’s LBW. I can’t believe he was complaining. He walked down the wicket but it hit him on the ankle.

“With Khalid, we heard a noise so you go up. In the end it’s umpire’s decision. If he gives it, he gives it; if not then you get on with the game.

“We had a tricky decision against our pro so they do even themselves out.”

On the victory Sudnik added: “We have done it the hard way so no one can say we don’t deserve it. When we drew Clitheroe we all thought ‘oh no’ but we knocked them out and never looked back.”

Andrew Metcalf took three wickets in Settle’s collapse with Niall Heyes claiming the other wicket.
