BLACKBURN Rovers have been linked with outgoing Cardiff City striker Adam Le Fondre.

The 28-year-old, who had a successful loan spell with Bolton Wanderers last season, is tipped to leave Cardiff next week.

And it is reported that Rovers, who are in the market for a new forward after selling former Bluebirds frontman Rudy Gestede to Aston Villa for £6m, are leading the chase.

Cardiff boss Russell Slade said: "There is likely to be movement next week and there is a chance it is a club up north showing strong interest.

“From the player's point of view he is desperate to sign for the right club in the right geographical area.”

Rovers are under an embargo after failing Financial Fair Play.

That means the only way they could currently sign Stockport-born Le Fondre is on loan or if the Bluebirds released him from his contract.

It is understood that Rovers would have their embargo lifted it they sold another player for a similar fee to the one they have received for Gestede.

Sheffield Wednesday are also said to be interested in Le Fondre.
