ACCRINGTON Stanley’s final pre-season friendly before the new League Two campaign ended in a draw as Blackpool came away a share of the spoils in a game arranged as part of Tom Aldred’s transfer to Bloomfield Road.

Seasiders youngster Bright Osayi-Samuel scored in the second half only to see it cancelled out by a cracker from Stanley midfielder Seamus Conneely as the Reds’ good form in friendlies continued.

Aldred was not part of the Blackpool side selected to start against his old club but received a warm reception when introduced as a half time sub.

From the off Stanley enjoyed some early possession in the away team’s half, with Blackpool goalkeeper Colin Doyle claiming the ball after Sean McConville had put Josh Windass through.

At the other end Jack Redshaw went close with a fierce drive from outside the box before a free kick from David Ferguson also flew wide.

Windass provided the best moment of a low key first half for the Reds, the number eight acing forward past a challenge before hitting his effort inches over the bar with Doyle at full stretch.

The Reds began the second period with real attacking intent and made a number of decent chances.

First Terry Gornell wriggled past Aldred and fired a shot the wrong side of the post before centre back Tom Davies met successive corners but was unable to get an effort on target.

Piero Mingoia then saw one shot deflected and another saved by Doyle as John Coleman’s team pressed for a goal.

But openings began to fall for the visitors and Kwame Thomas fired a warning shot past the post before Neil McDonald’s men opened the scoring.

Samuel provided it, as the Seasiders’ stand-out performer dribbled into the box down the left and picked out the corner of the net from a tight angle.

Stanley looked to respond, exerting more pressure on the Blackpool goal but finding their efforts thwarted. Sub Gerardo Bruna fired a free kick on target but Doyle was on hand to push the ball over the bar.

But the Reds were not to be denied, finding a leveller four minutes from the end of proceedings. Bruna got away down the right, cut back on to his stronger left foot and laid the ball off to Conneely who hammered the ball into the top corner to continue his run of eye-catching form.

Blackpool pressed for a late winner but it wasn’t to be as Stanley completed their preparations for next Saturday’s opener with Luton with another encouraging display.

Stanley: Mooney (Etheridge), Trialist, Davies, Wright (Pearson), Winnard (Steenson), Crooks, Barry (Conneely), Mingoia (Gornell), McConville (McCartan), Windass (Morgan), Gornell (Kee).
