BURNLEY new boy Tendayi Darikwa said the club’s ambition made joining the Clarets an easy decision, despite interest from elsewhere.

The versatile full-back, who signed a three-year deal from Chesterfield on Thursday, had interest from other Championship clubs.

He is also believed to have been on the radar of David Moyes when the Scot was manager of Everton. But Darikwa said that once he knew of Burnley’s interest, his mind was made up.

“There were other options for me and I did have to weigh up my options but as soon as Burnley came forward and made it clear what their plans were, moving forwards as a football club, it was a pretty easy decision and I made the right choice,” said the 23-year-old, who impressed against the Clarets in last weekend’s friendly at the Proact Stadium.

“This is a great opportunity to play for a massive football club. I hope I can play some part in helping them get back to where they were last year.

“I know from seeing them last week what they are about. I know they have lost a few players this summer but the rest of the squad played in the Premier League last season and my aim is to come in and help as much as I can.

“I base my game very much on my fitness levels and I like to attack and get forward — but first and foremost I am a defender. The aim is to try to improve the team if I get the chance.

“Chesterfield Football Club has been the best part of my life since I joined them at 16 and everything that has happened to me is a testament to the club."
