OLYMPIC handball player Holly Lam-Moores returned to her roots to mark the sporting successes of pupils at Alder Grange School.

The 24-year-old former Calder Road pupil was on hand, along with fellow Olympian Chris McDermott, for the school’s 4th sports presentation evening.

Chris who is the Great Britain handball team’s most capped player gave an inspirational talk to parents and pupils at the event.

Staff at the school said the evening was a great success and a tribute to the commitment and dedication of both the pupils and the PE department throughout the year.

Taking home the title of sports personalities of 2014-2015 were: year seven Chloe Broughton and Corey Haworth; year eight Ivy Rieken and David Goldswain; year nine Hannah Falconer and Brennan Boys; year ten Holly Lawton and Thomas McKay.

The Leadership Sport Award was won by Sarah Crowder; the Commitment to Sport Award by Chloe Broughton; KS3 Sports Personality by Amelia Chadfield and KS4 Sports Personality by Sarah Crowder.

Vanessa Holland, curriculum leader of PE said: “The evening was a true celebration of success from all the pupils. The support from parents and the hard work from the PE teachers is fantastic. It is evenings like this which make you so proud!”
