BILLY Kee says it feels like he has never been away after he became the latest familiar face to rejoin Accrington Stanley.

The striker spent the 2009/10 season on loan at Stanley from Leicester City and follows the likes of Sean McConville and Terry Gornell in returning to the club since John Coleman commenced his second spell as boss nine months ago.

Kee scored nine goals in his previous spell at Accrington at a time when the Reds had an embarrassment of riches up front.

Then only a teenager, he had to battle for a place in the starting line-up with Bobby Grant and Michael Symes, who netted 37 goals between them that season.

Kee later moved on to Torquay United, Burton Albion and Scunthorpe United, spending the second half of last season on loan at Mansfield Town.

Now 24, he has signed a 12-month deal with Stanley after being released at the end of his Scunthorpe contract.

Kee said: “The funny thing about it is that when I came back to sign it felt like I had never left.

“The club’s still more or less the same and it was exciting to come back and see some of the old faces.

“I want to play a lot more games than I did as an 18-year-old here and I want to score a lot more goals.”

Kee is married to Leigh Lennon, a former Ribble Valley athlete who is the cousin of Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon. He netted 42 times in three years at Burton but never settled at Scunthorpe and says he just wants to enjoy his football again at Stanley.

“Last season was the hardest I’ve had in football so far,” said the former Northern Ireland under 21 international. “That’s why I was attracted to Accrington this summer. I had other offers but I turned them down to come here.

“I’ve had a lot of ups and downs since I left but I think I’ve reached a stage when I just want to be happy and I’m happy at this club.

“This is the right place for me now because I now have a family, my wife is from Lancashire and so we’re up here and I’m happy on and off the field.”

Coleman said: “Billy’s a proven goalscorer at this level.

“He was only a young kid when he came to us the first time but he already had an eye for goal.

“We’ve got great attacking options now and that’s perhaps an area where we’ve been a little short in the past.”
