SETTLE skipper Andrew Davidson is hoping his current crop can emulate the 2005 vintage as they seek an unprecedented treble.

Settle enjoyed a perfect weekend as they secured a Twenty20 win on Friday night, a league success on Saturday and then a Ramsbottom Cup triumph on Sunday to book their place in the semi-finals.

And Davidson believes the club have the stamina and ability to at least match the double-winning side of a decade ago.

"It would be nice," said the skipper.

"We won the double in 2005 and we were also Ramsbottom Cup winners in 2004 when we were second in the league.

"It would be great to try and do something similar again this time round.

"We have the Ramsbottom Cup semi-final to look forward to, we will be at home in the next round of the Twenty20 and we are still on Clitheroe's shirt tails so it is going well at the moment.

"It is busy, we only have a squad of around 13 so we are picking the same players for most games but we have a very young side. Most of the lads are 24 or under and there is only myself and the pro over 30 so that could be crucial for us.

"If it gets to long games and baking hot days then you never know but that might give us an edge.

"We are certainly enjoying our cricket at the moment.

"We were very good at the weekend and we bounced back from the disappointment of losing the week before.

"The second team have also started to win a few games so that will hopefully add a bit of competition to places as well."

Davidson was also quick to point to professional Imran Khalid as a man who is helping Settle challenge on three fronts.

The Pakistan man is closing in on 1,000 runs for the season and made a match-winning 102 in Sunday's cup quarter final win over Whalley.

And Davidson knows having Khalid in form can go a long way to pointing Settle to glory.

"It makes a big difference when he is batting well," said Davidson of his pro.

"When he is scoring runs we can bat around him and in the last few weeks he has scored well.

"If we can keep the batting up as it is then we can challenge.

"We have a good bowling attack with a lot of variety.

"It is about keeping it all together and hopefully we can have a good season.

"This time last year we were 30 odd points behind Clitheroe and we are much closer now (nine points) so to have come from where we were is promising."

Settle host Cherry Tree on Saturday in the league hoping to further reduce Clitheroe's advantage at the top of the table.
