SCOTT Arfield's dad is urging the Burnley midfielder to think about playing his international football for Canada, the Clarets ace has revealed.

And the midfielder, who has represented Scotland at B level as well as Under-19 and Under-20 appearances, admitted he was open to a Canadian switch, for who he qualifies through his father.

"I've spoken to my dad, who was born in Toronto, and he would be more than happy for me to jump ship," said Arfield.

"I'm quite open-minded about it and I've not made my mind up whether it be Scotland or Canada.

"Once you've played club football for so long. you want to take the next step to see what it's all about," the former Huddersfield midfielder said in an interview with BBC Scotland.

Arfield has made more than 80 appearances for the Clarets since joining Sean Dyche's side in 2013 and scored two top-flight goals last season.

But despite his Canada considerations the 26-year-old admits he would be overjoyed should Strachan come calling.

He added: "It would be the pinnacle of my career if I could pull on a Scotland jersey and be an international football player.

"That is something I'm striving to be and, if the manager ever sees fit to include me, I would be ecstatic."
