BLACKBURN Rovers defender Adam Henley is relishing his latest taste of international football.

The 20-year-old right-back is currently training with Wales in Cardiff ahead of their huge Euro 2016 qualifier with Belgium on Friday week.

Henley has retained his place in the Wales squad after being recalled for their 3-0 victory in Israel in March.

That result, sealed by goals from Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale and Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey, means Chris Coleman’s side will go into the Belgium clash at Cardiff City Stadium level on points with their opponents at the top of Group B.

Henley is still waiting for his first international cap after being an unused substitute against Israel and against Mexico in a friendly in New Jersey in May 2012.

But the Rovers academy graduate, who turns 21 on Monday week, is delighted to be learning from the likes of Bale and Ramsey.

Henley said: “It’s going to be another great experience and another step to where I want to go.

“It’s a big game against Belgium and a massive one for the whole country.

“We got a great result in Israel and the whole experience was brilliant for me.

“The standard of the players is very high and it was great for me to put myself against them.

“I’m determined to take as much as I can from them.”

Victory over World Cup quarter-finalists Belgium would move Wales a big step closer to qualifying for a major tournament for the first time since 1958.

It would also round off an impressive end to the season for Henley.

He made the Rovers right-back position his own after returning to the starting line-up in February.

And his performances against Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling in the FA Cup quarter-final ties between the teams earned widespread praise.

“It’s been twists and turns throughout the whole season but since the turn of the year I think my performances stepped up to another level,” said Henley, who is expected to be joined in the Rovers squad in pre-season by promising 17-year-old right-back Ryan Nyambe.

“I was very happy with that and long may that continue at the start of next season.”

But Henley admits fellow full-back Markus Olsson was a deserving winner of Rovers’ player of the year award.

“I was over the moon for him because sometimes full-backs do not get the recognition they deserve,” said Henley of the Sweden international left-back.

“I think by far he was our most consistent player over the course of the season and without a doubt he deserved that award.”
