His winning goal at home to Manchester City was the unanimous choice in the goal of the season category.

A special award was also presented on the night to long-serving defender Michael Duff.

During 11 years at Turf Moor the 37-year-old has won two promotions to the Premier League, and he is in talks with the Clarets about extending his stay as the club bid to plot an immediate return to the top flight.

Ross Wallace, who will leave the club after five years at the end of the season, was also recognised for his stunning equalising free kick at Leicester City in October.

In addressing supporters at the end of the night, manager Sean Dyche said: “We were all aware it would be a tough challenge this year and we’re very proud of the players and the way they’ve gone about it, not just on the pitch but off the pitch.

“I think they’re a bunch of good people, not just good players, and I think that’s important.

“Thanks to all the supporters and supporters clubs, and onwards and upwards as ever.”
