DANIEL Metcalfe insists Oswaldtwistle Immanuel’s winless league run is not concerning him just yet - with his side fast becoming the county’s cup kings.

Metcalfe’s men have failed to register a league victory so far this season, with their latest loss coming at the hands of Euxton last weekend.

But the Ossie skipper believes his side’s cup form means a charge up the table is not far away.

“It has been a strange season so far,” said Metcalfe, who made 58 in his side’s defeat last time out.

“We have been brilliant on a Sunday in the cups but not on a Saturday in the league.

“We are beaten by the better side last weekend at Euxton. They batted, bowled and fielded better than us on the day so they deserved to win.”

But despite sitting bottom of the pile after four matches, three defeats and a washout, Oswaldtwistle have beaten defending Ribblesdale League champions Clitheroe and Edenfield in the Ramsbottom Cup as well as seeing off Northern league side St Annes in the National Knockout.

That victory has set up a clash with Lancashire League outfit East Lancs on Sunday and Metcalfe admits he has been delighted by his side’s cup form.

“I probably would have taken what has happened so far this season,” the Oswaldtwistle Immanuel skipper, said.

“It’s great to be doing so well in the cup as well.

“We have only lost three league games so far but to beat Clitheroe and St Annes in the cups proves that we are a good side.

“We have a big derby on Sunday with East Lancs in the national knockout and I think we will be taking a coach load of fans over there.

“For the last round at St Annes we filled a 53-seater coach and I think it will be the same again this weekend.

“We have a really good following in the cup and I think a lot of the fans who went to the last round want to come to the next one as well. Hopefully we can get another win.”

And Metcalfe is far from downcast on his side’s league form as they aim to get up and running at home to Earby on Saturday.

“I am confident we will be ok,” said the skipper.

“I think we can get on a run. I said to the lads in the changing room after the game on Saturday that a lot of sides lose their opening couple of games and to then put five or six wins together.

“I think we will soon climb the table. We just need that first win.”
