RICHARD Bideau of the Pendle Forest Cycling Club is the 2015 North Lancashire Time Trial Association (NLTTA) 10 mile champion after a 20 minutes 42 seconds ride on the course on the northern end of the Clitheroe by-pass, writes DAVE BROWN.

Bideau was just three seconds ahead of the 20mins 45secs of North Lancs. Road Club’s Steve Irwin with Burnley’s Mick Ellerton third in 21mins 25secs.

The just-turned 18-year-old Nicholas Cooper, of Helmshore and the Rossendale Road Club, again stamped his mark on the junior event of the RTTC Classic Series in the latest qualifying event near Reading.

Cooper has now won four of the six rounds which means he cannot be caught and therefore wins the overall title - just as Burnley’s Peter Greenwood had recently done to win the veteran on target time category.

Greenwood, 63, showed his form in the 30-mile Circuit of Wildboar Fell near Sedbergh taking third overall only 19 seconds behind winner Andy Ashurst of Manchester Wheelers despite the age gap.

In the Stone Wheelers 25-mile event Billington’s Mark Haydock of the North Lancs Road Club clinched third place from more than 100 entries with a personal best of 52mins 25secs.

That was just over one minute behind regular winner Charles Taylor of South Pennine Road Club.

At the Steven Burke Hub in Barrowford our local riders claimed several placings with Colne’s Sam Boast and Burnley’s Martin Woffindin third and fourth in the main event.

In the fourth category event Rossendale’s Adam Robinson was the winner with Bailey Payne of Earby second.

In the under-16 event Nathan Hawthorn of Nelson was first with Sabden’s Daniel Vincent the winner in the under-12s.

In the midweek 10-mile events the promoting NLRC took top places at Edisford with Steve Irwin clocking 22mins 12sec in his first ride on the course beating Mark Haydock’s 22mins 21secs with Fraser Snape third 24mins 7secs and Paul Taylor fourth 24mins 25secs.

Chris Smith of Condor Road Club was winner of the Rossendale Road Club ‘10’ in 26mins 35secs beating three Rossendale members James Tudor 26mins 58secs, Roy Flanagan 26mins 59secs and Paul Warrener 27mins 14secs.

The Pendle Forest ’10’ had their own Paul Braithwaite taking first with 23mins 13secs with Ben Cooke (Bronte Wheelers) and PF’s Russell Marsden dead-heating with 24mins 54secs then Simon Picard of Jedi Cycle Sport fourth in 25mins 11secs.

Amy Gornall was the fastest lady in 26mins flat with younger sister Rhiannon not far behind clocking 29mins 29secs.
