BURNLEY will release Scotland international Ross Wallace following relegation from the Premier League.

The midfielder, whose current deal expires in the summer, is set to leave after five years at Turf Moor.

But the Clarets are to open talks with veteran defender Michael Duff over a new contract.

Wallace will leave Turf Moor following the final game at Aston Villa on Sunday, having made 165 appearances and scored 13 goals, including an injury-time equaliser at Leicester this season.

The 29-year-old said: “It’s a sad day for me to be leaving Burnley. I have thoroughly enjoyed five terrific years at the club and made many friends.

“I would like thank the manager, his staff, the players and the supporters for all their backing and I wish the club every success in the future.”

Burnley manager Sean Dyche added: “With the outcome of the season now clear we have met with the players to put them in the picture.

“Ross will be leaving and, of course, we thank him for his contribution to the club and we wish him well in the future.”

But Duff could yet extend his stay with the Clarets having joined from Cheltenham in 2004.

Burnley striker Danny Ings is also out of contract at Turf Moor this summer and is set to leave the club.
