BLACKBURN Rovers striker Jordan Rhodes has been named in the Football League Team of the Decade at tonight's Football League Awards 2015.

The all-star line-up, announced to celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Football League Awards, was revealed at the gala ceremony at The Brewery, London.

Rhodes said: “It’s a real honour and thanks have to go to my team-mates. I’m happy to oblige and try and score a goal or two but they’re the ones who’ve made the chances for me, so credit to them.”

The award recognises 11 outstanding players and one manager from the last 10 years who have excelled in the competitions of The Football League. 

Clubs were asked to select their best players from the last decade and those names were then put forward for consideration alongside input direct from fans via social media and the roll of honour of previous Football League award winners. 

Rhodes has scored 71 goals in 140 appearances for Rovers since his club record £8m move from Huddersfield Town in August 2012.

He has netted 18 times in the current campaign and is on course to notch 20 goals for the sixth season running.

The Scotland international scored 87 goals in 148 appearances for Huddersfield after making a £350,000 move from Ipswich Town in July 2009.

Rhodes is the only player in the Team of the Decade, which also includes Real Madrid's £85m world record signing Gareth Bale, who has yet to play in the Premier League.

The line-up in full is: Kasper Schmeichel, Angel Rangel, Gareth Bale, Wes Morgan, Ashley Williams, Wes Hoolahan, Adam Lallana, Peter Whittingham, Glenn Murray, Rickie Lambert, Jordan Rhodes.

The manager of the Team of the Decade is former Burnley boss Eddie Howe, who is on the verge of leading Bournemouth to promotion to the Premier League having previously led them up from League Two to the Championship.

Blackburn Rovers Community Trust, meanwhile, lost out to Derby County in the Johnstone’s Paint Community Club of the Year category, after being named as the best in the North West.

Preston North End's former Rovers striker, Joe Garner, from Whalley, was named League One Player of the Year.
