DRIVERS faced even more disruption on the roads today after an articulated lorry overturned near the M8.

Emergency services were called to the scene after the lorry toppled over in Renfrew Road, Paisley, close to the Abbotsinch Retail Park.

The accident happened at around 6am near the junction 27 on-ramp.

Heavy traffic built up with the entry slip road from Renfrew onto westbound M8 closed northbound due to the accident.

Police said the driver was uninjured and they were waiting for the vehicle to be removed before the carriageway could be reopened.

Fire crews were called in case they were required to deal with a fuel clear-up.

The driver works for McKay's Transport, based in Montrose, and was carrying a load for Scots meat producers Millers of Speyside.

Traffic was beginning to slow up around the area which has been used as an alternative route while roadworks are carried out at the nearby Arkleston Bridge, on the M8 at Glasgow Airport.

Earlier this month work began on a £1.2million project to raise and refurbish the bridge.

It is to be raised by six inches following a string of accidents involving high lorries.

The work will be carried out by road contractors Amey. It began on July 17 and will last for eight weeks.
