SIMON DONNELLY played as a trialist for Morton as the Greenock side lost 3-0 to Oxford at the weekend, and the striker is hoping for another chance to impress tonight.
Romanian champions Unirea Urziceni are the opposition this evening and Donnelly, who was freed by Partick Thistle at the end of the season, believes that he can do a job for the First Division side this season.
"I got a wee knock on an ankle late on but it should be okay and we'll see what happens now," he said.
"I have been training with Thistle after my old gaffer (Ian McCall) invited me to keep fit, so this was my first game.
"Nothing has been done at Morton and I still have to speak to boss Davie Irons."
Unirea Urziceni are managed by Dan Petrescu and have recenty added Dutch midfielder Edgar Davids to their squad.
Irons confirmed he will have another look at Donnelly tonight.
"We are just having a look and he could play against Unirea," he said. "They are a Champions League team and it's all about match practice."
The game will provide a stern test for Morton tonight, but uppermost in Irons' thoughts at the minute is an ongoing injury with Dominic Shimmin.
The defender missed a chunk of last season because of injury and there are fears that surgery may be required to correct the problem.
"It's becoming a concern over his thigh and hamstring," said Irons.
"There has been no surgery but it is a concern for us."
Meanwhile, Queen's Park had former Stranraer goalkeeper Scott Black in goal as a trialist during a 1-1 draw with Arbroath.
Ian Watt scored for the Spiders and Hampden coach Gardner Speirs said: "It was a really good workout for both sides."
