MARK REYNOLDS believes Kris Boyd's man-of-the-match display against Motherwell showed his critics he is no one trick pony.

Steelmen centre-half Reynolds, who was the subject of a bid from the Ibrox club last summer, was helpless to prevent Boyd scoring a double.

However, he thinks Scotland's leading goalscorer - who took his tally for the 2008/09 campaign to 28 on Saturday - showed his class at the weekend.

Reynolds said: "Everybody in Scottish football talks about the form of Kris Boyd. But, for me, the only thing that's important about Kris Boyd is if he is scoring goals.

"He got two against us on Saturday. That is all you can ask of a striker.

"Kris is a big strong guy and he has an amazing eye for goal.

"Not just in and around the 18-yard box, as everybody always claims, either. People say he is a poacher who just scores from close in.

"But if he gets the ball in a good position up to 30 yards out he is going to have a pop."

The 3-1 defeat to Rangers dealt a serious blow to Motherwell's hopes of finishing in the top half of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League table this season.

Mark McGhee's men are currently level on points with sixth-placed Hibs - but their rivals have a game in hand against St Mirren in Paisley tonight.

Reynolds, who believes there is still all to play for, said: "Hopefully St Mirren can do us a turn by beating Hibs tonight."

Reynolds' team-mate Brian McLean, meanwhile, branded Pedro Mendes a diver after the Portuguese midfielder tumbled under his challenge in the box to win a penalty for Gers third goal.

"I think there was a bit of simulation there from Mendes," said McLean.
