TWO of Glasgow's most popular visitor attractions have been praised for being accessible to disabled people.

The Rough Guide to Accessible Britain features Glasgow Science Centre and the Scottish Football Museum at Hampden.

The guide is compiled by disabled writers from all over the country and also features readers' favourite attractions.

It includes more than 175 venues from all over the UK but describes the two Glasgow attractions as among the best.

This news was welcomed by the Glasgow attractions whose bosses say they aim to make it as easy as possible for everyone to enjoy their exhibitions.

Scottish football museum curator Richard McBrearty said: "It's a very important status for the museum and shows no-one is overlooked.

"It's nice to know we can provide a benchmark for other museums.

"It is very important anyone coming to the stadium can do so and does not feel like they are missing out on anything."

The Glasgow Science Centre earned praise for easy access to its exhibitions and IMAX theatre.

Steve Ross, the centre's technical services manager, said: "We continue to strive to ensure Glasgow Science Centre is as accessible as possible. We are delighted to hear about our inclusion in the book."

The Rough Guide lists places it considers as fun days out for holidaymakers and where people don't need to worry about mobility or accessibility concerns.

Author Lara Masters said: "It will certainly come as no surprise to disabled people that the way venues and attractions treat the Disability Discrimin-ation Act requirements varies wildly.

"As well as addressing specific accessibility information, the Rough Guide to Accessible Britain pulls together the best exciting ideas for making the most of your leisure time."

The guide is developed by publisher Rough Guide and Motability which provides disabled people a motoring package.

Mike Betts, chief executive of Motability Operations, said: "We are excited to include the Glasgow attractions in the new guide as fantastic ideas for a fun day out with family and friends."
