COME Sunday, if you're like everyone else, you'll be presenting your mum with flowers, chocolate or champagne for Mother's Day. Maybe all three, if you're feeling generous.

If your mum is like every other mum, however, the chances are she'll offer her grateful thanks - and consider quietly putting your gifts up on eBay.

For what she really, really wants on Sunday is the chance to escape the household chores for an entire day.

A survey of mums at the Mamas and Papas store at Glasgow Fort suggests that the best present would be a break from being the cook, cleaner, washing and ironing lady.

Fully 67% dreamt of a lazy day - breakfast in bed followed by a rest from all the chores.

But 93% are hoping not to get flowers, chocolates and bubbly ... even though 54% are actually planning on giving their own mum such presents.

Only 14% are looking for a voucher to a health spa with 2% hoping for a bottle of their favourite perfume.

Elaine Sweeney, store manager at Mamas and Papas, said: "Being a mum myself, a break from the household chores is something I would love to get this Mother's Day.

"Juggling work and keeping the house in order as well as being a best friend to my daughter is tiring."

Elaine did, however, add: "I wouldn't knock back getting a lovely bunch of flowers, chocs and bubbly on Sunday - these would be most welcome.

"Mother's Day is all about spending time with your mum to show her how much you appreciate everything she has done for you over the years."

Pausing only to visit the shops to seek a refund on the chocolates, flowers and champagne we'd already bought, we asked mums: what would you most like to receive on Sunday? From a day off to new jewellery, this is what mums really want LEANNE DILLON, 27, nursery nurse, Cowcaddens, and Carly I have asked for a watch for Mother's Day as it is something that I need. I would also like a day off and some peace and quiet. EMMA McANISH, 24, bank worker, City Centre, with Campbell and Ellen Perfume would be a great gift for Mother's Day. It would also be good to have a day of rest. JACQUELINE FLAHERTY, 35, manager, Coatbridge, and Kiara and Carlie Something simple like a box of chocolates from Thorntons with my name on them would be good. HEATHER WHITE, 18, full-time mum, Paisley, and Malachi A day at a spa would be wonderful. Getting the chance to have a massage and a facial would be great. JOANNE COPLAND, 29, housewife, Kirkintilloch, and Sophie Louise My ideal gift would be to get my partner to watch the children for the day, letting me go out. CHIARA PIACENTINI, 39, teacher, Strathbungo, and Giovanni Some peace and quiet would be good. It would also be good to have breakfast made for me. ANDREA MITCHELL, 38, nurse, Cumbernauld, and daughter I always lose my earrings so for Mother's Day I would like to get some jewellery. MARIA McALLISTER, 39, teacher, Bearsden, and son I would like jewellery for Mother's Day. It would also be good to get a bouquet of flowers, but not one from the petrol station!
