GEORGE Boyd believes Danny Ings has everything it takes to become one of the best strikers in the Premier League.

Ings missed out on a call-up to the senior England side, but played half an hour of the Under-21s 1-0 win in the Czech Republic on Friday night, and is set to feature in the Young Lions fixture against Germany this evening.

The 23-year-old has bagged nine Premier League goals this season, and Boyd has seen enough to think he can go all the way.

“He’s got all the attributes to be one of the best strikers in the country,” said Boyd.

“I’m sure Ingsy was disappointed but he can go away with the Under-21s and prove what a good player he is.

“There’s a lot of competition up front which is great for England. I’m sure Danny will be back with the goals soon and he will be fine.”

Over the weekend Ings was linked with a move to Bundlesliga with Borussia Monchengladbach or Roberto Di Matteo’s Schalke.

Monchengladbach are in third position in Germany and are set to qualify for the Champions League - making them a more attractive proposition than Spanish side Real Sociedad, who held talks with Ings last month.

If Ings opts to move abroad Burnley would just receive around £200,000 in compensation, but a host of Premier League clubs are also interested in acquiring his services at the end of the campaign, when his contract expires, with Liverpool leading the chase.

Ings was beaten to a place in the England side by Harry Kane, who celebrated his call-up by scoring one minute and 18 seconds into his Three Lions debut against Lithuania.

The two will go head to head at Turf Moor on Easter Sunday, with Kane’s Tottenham the visitors at the weekend.

“We proved last week against Man City we can beat anyone so we’re looking forward to it,” Boyd said.

“We’ve played them a lot so we know the way they play and we look forward to that.”

Tottenham’s visit is the first of two successive home games for the Clarets, with Arsenal next in town.

Boyd believes the two matches are absolutely crucial as Burnley seek to climb out of the relegation zone over the next eight matches, and he has called on the supporters to recreate the atmosphere in the 1-0 win over Manchester City.

“They’re massive, especially with the atmosphere we had against City,” he said. “If we can get that again and get the crowd behind us then we can beat anyone on our day.

“It was amazing against City, I’ve not known anything like that since I’ve been here. It really spurred everyone on and it was a massive part of us winning the game.”
