FA CUP hero Josh King is confident that Blackburn Rovers can still reach the Championship play-offs this season.

King put Rovers into the quarter finals of the cup with a hat-trick in Saturday’s 4-1 thrashing of Premier League Stoke City and now he has turned his attentions to tonight’s league match at Cardiff City.

The Norwegian hopes he has done enough to earn what would be only his second league start since Boxing Day, and still wants to help Rovers into the top six this season.

Gary Bowyer’s men sit 11 points behind the play-off places with 16 games left to play, but they would cut the gap to eight if they win at Cardiff tonight and King thinks a top-six spot is within their reach.

“I think Anything is possible,” he said.

“We have to win at Cardiff to get it going but at the end of last season we didn’t lose for 12 games so hopefully we can get on another run like that.

“That’s what we need and If we go on a run like we did at the end of last season I’m pretty sure we will be able to sneak into a play-off place.”

Bowyer has a real selection dilemma up front tonight, with Jordan Rhodes and Chris Brown both in contention after being rested on Saturday.

But King hopes to get the nod ahead of Rhodes, and would have no complaints if he was paired with Rudy Gestede again in a repeat of the strike force utilised against Stoke.

“It was the first chance we got given playing together,” King said.

“Everyone knows Jordan Rhodes is scoring goals for fun and I salute him for what he does, so it was nice to finally get a partnership with Rudy Gestede. He’s such a powerhouse up there.

“He wins every header. As soon as he goes for a ball I know he’s going to win the header so I just have to be around and on my tiptoes.

“I think it was a good partnership, which you could see on the scoresheet.”
