BLACKBURN Rovers boss Gary Bowyer is delighted his FA Cup wish has been granted.

Bowyer said before Monday night’s fifth-round draw he wanted another Premier League team at home and he got what he wanted.

Stoke City’s 4-1 fourth-round win at League One Rochdale, which kicked off 30 minutes after the draw had been made, means they will travel to Ewood Park in the last 16.

Stoke are managed by former Rovers player and manager Mark Hughes. It will be the second time Hughes will have returned to his old stamping ground in the space of seven months after he brought his Potters side to Ewood for a pre-season friendly.

Bowyer is relishing the prospect of taking on Hughes and the three former Rovers players he has in his squad.

“Stoke are having a decent season and they’ve got some fantastic players so we know it will be a tough test,” he said.

“Everyone is aware of what Mark Hughes has achieved in the game.

“He had a successful time here and it won’t be long before he brings success to Stoke because he’s a good manager.

“Having played them in pre-season, we know all about the quality, the strength in depth and the size they’ve got.

“They’ve got goals in the team, with the return of Mame Biram Diouf and Jon Walters, and they’ve got some fantastic footballers, like Steven Nzonzi, who will also be returning.”

“It is typical tie that the FA Cup throws up, with an ex-manager and ex-players coming back to the club.

“It’s a great tie for us because it’s another Premier League team at home and one that we’re looking forward to.

“But we’ve got to concentrate on the league before then.”

Hughes said after the victory over Rochdale: “We look forward to Blackburn. The overall aim was simply to get through this round. That had to be our focus.

“Obviously we were aware of the draw prior to kick-off but we had to get on with it.

“We’ll look forward to the game and to taking a huge following to Blackburn. Hopefully we can then progress further in the competition.”
