BLACKBURN Rovers have not received any offers for top-scorer Rudy Gestede.

But it is understood Hull City have made a tentative enquiry for the 12-goal forward.

The Tigers had a club record £12m bid for Jordan Rhodes turned down in the summer.

But they could yet return to Rovers for Rhodes’ strike-partner Gestede.

Hull boss Steve Bruce is short of strikers after Nikica Jelavic and Abel Hernandez picked up injuries.

Bruce sent a scout to Ewood Park on Sunday to run the rule over Gestede in Rovers’ 1-0 loss to Wolves.

The towering targetman was also watched by representatives from a number of other Premier League clubs.

They included West Brom whose new manager Tony Pulis is an admirer of Gestede.

The 26-year-old was substituted after 74 minutes after failing to find the net for the fourth match running.

But Gestede’s record since joining Rovers for £200,000 from Cardiff City last January still makes for remarkable reading.

The Benin international has netted 24 times in 40 starts and only Chesterfield Eoin Doyle’s scored more goals than him in English league football in 2014.

Rovers are continuing to try to cut their losses in a bid to have their transfer embargo for failing Financial Fair Play lifted.

But boss Gary Bowyer has been given no indication by owners Venky’s, who blocked Hull’s attempts to sign Rhodes in August, he has to sell any of his star names this month.

Bowyer is also hoping to add to his squad during the transfer window.

Under the rules of the club’s ‘FFP embargo’ the Rovers boss is able to bring in players on loan or on free transfers under certain conditions.

Bowyer has been linked with out-of-favour Bolton Wanderers captain and midfielder Jay Spearing, who he tried to sign from Liverpool in the summer of 2013.

And last night there was speculation he was interested in Watford winger Lloyd Dyer.

Rovers midfielder Tom Cairney believes keeping together the squad Bowyer has built in his 20 months in charge would represent a successful transfer window.

“As player we don’t really think about it,” said Cairney, who arrived at Rovers from Hull last January.

“From a fan’s point of view maybe they do.

“I don’t want to see anyone go from this building.

“We’ve got to try to keep everyone together and if we do it will be a very successful January.

“We’ve got a lot of players here with a lot of potential.

“When there’s no interest you’re doing something wrong. That’s when you need to start worrying.

“As long as we keep everyone I’ll be happy.”

The Rovers’ squad return to training today ahead of their Championship clash at Wigan Athletic on Saturday.
